If you haven’t heard the story about Walter Palmer shooting Cecil the lion with a crossbow, you’ve obviously been living in a cave for at least the last week. One area of concern is what will happen to Cecil’s cubs. We were first told that the cubs were in danger from the Rival Jericho, then today we were told Jericho their protector was killed by Poachers?
The Daily Mail first published that Jericho was the rival to the pride, and that Jericho was trying to kill the cubs but Cecil’s brother was protecting them. This makes it appear that Jericho is not related to Cecil, and that Jericho is a Rival
The Daily Mail then publishes a story about Poachers killing Jericho and say that “Jericho, Cecil’s brother, the lion that was protecting the cubs, has been slain by poachers”. Forgive me if I’m slow, but I’m a bit confused. Who the H*LL is Jericho?
Due to the misinformation provided by the Daily Mail it’s difficult to tell whether Jericho was defending Cecil’s cubs or trying to kill them.  It appears to us that he was trying to defend them. An Article on the Telegraph claims the picture shown to the right is of Cecil and Jericho. However they also claim that a man by the name of Brent Stapelkamp is “watching Jericho like a hawk” which makes me doubt the credibility of this article because if Jericho was being “watched like a hawk” how did he get slain by a poacher?
“Now he is gone, Jericho is a lone territorial male, and he has to defend territory alone. Jericho is a very experienced male. I caught him a few days after Cecil’s death. His collar had died some time before, and I put a new one on and we are watching him like hawks. The cubs may survive.” – Mr Stapelkamp
According to a recent release from the people leading the study of the Pride, Jericho is not biologically Cecil’s brother, but was the secondary lion in the pride. He’s alive and well and still protecting the cubs. I HATE when panicky misinformation is put out.
