The Story So Far

The Mainstream media has been very cautious with this story, some others has posted misleading titles like “Cops beat mentally ill man” when truth isn’t so cut and dry. I also wonder why when the victim is Hispanic there isn’t a single mention of “racism” anywhere, seems kind of odd, especially with the video you’re about to see.

What's Being Said by both sides

Acosta

Mother feared for Sons Well Being, not her own
“He wasn’t trying to hurt me. I was afraid for him, not for my safety. That’s why I called for help,” she said. “I thought I was going to get help, not (that) my son would get hurt,”- Mother
Mental Illness
Acosta also claims that her son has mental health problems and was having an episode during the attack.
Cops Went Too Far
The mother believes that the cops went to far, and many will agree with her after seeing the video.

Jose Assaulted His Mother
Police claim that Jose was pushing his mother in front of traffic and slamming her to the pavement when they arrived.
methamphetamine
Police claim that Jose, while in custody, admitted to smoking methamphetamine earlier in the day.

Police claim that due to Jose using Methamphetamine, the force was necessary to subdue him. They claim he tried grabbing their taser and that he also tried to bite them. There were two initial stories of what they claim happened during the ambulance ride to the hospital.

This video is tough to watch, police claim this is after a failed taser attempt. Towards the end one has to ask the question if it was still necessary as it appeared that he was subdued yet one officer keeps beating him.

The Major Issue - Was Meth Used?

If, and I say IF because this story is still fresh, IF the defendant was on meth at the time of his arrest you cannot make a case for excessive force.

Meth:

violent and volatile drug
causes paranoia, hallucinations, and abhorrent behavior that makes them dangerous and potentially violent.

“It’s always an experience attempting to take someone hopped up on meth to the hospital. It’s an exercise in controlled chaos. There are anywhere from eight to eighteen people attempting to control one person who is usually screaming, spitting, biting, crying, pissing, flailing, and completely deranged.” – onviolence.com

Attacking EMT's in an ambulence

This is the major problem with making a case for police brutality. Early reports claimed the defendant tried to bite EMT workers in the ambulance during the ride to the hospital in the ambulance.

Perhaps the most damning statement came from his sister.

Witness Testimony: Jose was trying to kill his mother

“They embrace and he starts throwing her in traffic, they struggle, she kind of gets back this way, and again he throws her in traffic, somehow whether he slams her down or she falls, she’s on the ground and he’s trying to drag her into traffic” – Witness Selena

The Truth: Jose Velasco was high on meth trying to kill his mother

Witness testimony confirmed the typical actions of someone high on Meth. He was jumping on cars, beating his chest, and tried to kill his own mother when she arrived at the scene. This woman would have no reason to lie, but his mother would, as she’s trying to protect her child more than likely do to the fact that he violated his parole.
