Oregon School tells student to change shirt honoring vets

Connie Holmes recently shared a picture on her Facebook page that is leading many to question a Schools Policies. Her son was told his shirt that honored veterans was a violation of the schools dress code. He was asked to turn it inside out. The shirt read “Standing for those who stood for us”. Deb Harper was able to ask her son his side of the story, we’re keeping his name private at this time:

On Wednesday October 7th the student of Dexter McCarty Middle School in Gresham, Oregon, said “he attended his first 4 classes, and went to his lunch break with nothing ever being said to him” Once he made it to recess, he was approached by Assistant Principal, Amy Nimz, who informed him his shirt was inappropriate, that he should cover it up. The Student disagreed, and asked to speak to his father. Once in the office, he began dialing his fathers number when the Principal, John George asked to speak with the student. George said the shirt was a violation of the schools dress code. The student told George, his shirt was a memorial to Veterans and he refused to remove the shirt, he wanted to call his dad to come get him. The Principal told the student that if he left, he would be considered suspended for the day. Allen’s father came and picked him up.

The next day he was directed to Student Manager, Brian Hill, who again said this shirt was against the dress code. The student informed him his parents had looked at the Student Handbook, and that was untrue, for which Mr. Hill replied, that shirt Is no different that the Mexican students wearing gang related shirts, and that he should drop it, because he was not going to deal with the students useless conversation because it was wasting his time.

The school did not take into account that the students brother, Charles was a United States Marine for 4 years. The student told us, “I feel I have no voice, and my Constitutional Rights were taken away.”

What disturbs me the most is that these people are responsible to oversee a child’s education. I personally wouldn’t let any of the 4 above people teach my cat how to use a liter box.   One thing this does teach is terrorism works.   It causes thin spined liberal student educators to back down and cower when faced with it.  They used to bring guns to school in the past and teach firearm safety, you didn’t have the problems with mass school shootings back then.

How does someone who thinks showing respect for your brother who risked his life for his country as a United States Marine is the same as showing appreciation for a gang become responsible for a child’s education?
