An Alaskan man in a bear costume allegedly harassed Grizzly bears and their cubs while they were eating. The incident occured near Haines Alaska by the Chilkoot River on Monday (August 10th). The bears visit this area frequently to catch Salmon.
On Monday A crowd of people gathered to watch the bears from a safe distance. This is when a man in a bear costume ran through the crowd and got within 5-10 feet of a cub. He began jumping up and down to get the cubs attention. Some media outlets claim that a man “moved a bear” out of the way.
“Lou Cenicola moved the sow out the way for the man’s safety”- Q13 Fox
We’re not personally sure how one “moves a momma Grizzly bear out of the way” but the police are looking to question the man. Lou Cenicola (Alaska Fish & Game) chased the man and yelled at him for harassing the Grizzly bears. The man fled the scene and drove away with the costume head still on. Cenicola wrote down his license plate and reported the incident to police.
Apparently people dressing up in bear costumes are a problem in Alaska:
Troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters says it’s not the first time they have encountered a man in a bear suit.
How stupid not only is this person endangering his own life but the lives of those watching. If that mama bear went after the idiot and he ran through the crowd then attacks on the crowd will happen. Any type of female animal is very dangerous when they have babies with them.
