A hate crime took place Wednesday evening at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church in Charleston South Carolina.  According to the church website, it was the oldest AME in the south.
9 people were killed when a clean-shaven white man in his 20s, with a slender build, walked into the church and opened fire.  He was wearing a grey sweatshirt, blue jeans and boots.  State Senator Clementa Pinckney, 41, who was also the church Pastor, was among the deceased.
“He never had anything bad to say about anybody, even when I thought he should,” Rutherford, D-Columbia, said of Pinckney. “He was always out doing work either for his parishioners or his constituents. He touched everybody.”
Pinckney appears to be an exceptional man, he lost his life along with 8 others. They were praying on a Wednesday night when their lives were taken by a senseless act of violence. The story is very tragic, and it leaves us with a very bad feeling.
Does Location Play A Role?
The Church that the incident happened at is apparently a historic church. Their website claims that they are the oldest AME Church in the south. That would lead me to believe whoever did this would be from the south. You would have to know of this church and the history to target it. The location is also roughly 5 hours away from both Atlanta and Valdosta. Both of these areas have had increased racial tensions, especially in the month of May. Of course this is all speculation at this time until more details become available.
