Matthew Shane Wester 37, has married the 18 year old Teenage girl, Amy Nicole Cox, just 2 weeks after she graduated High School. Matthew was charged with having an inappropriate sexual relationship with a student (Cox). The couple obtained a marriage license on June 8 and got married in Gulf Shores on Saturday, June 13, according to the Canada Journal.
“intentionally and knowingly engaged with a male or female student under the age of 19 in sexual contact which was done for the purpose of gratifying the sexual desire of either party, to wit – kissing and spending the night with the victim.” – Indictment
Now the major problem becomes the law. You cannot make a husband and wife testify against themselves, so the prosecution just lost their chief witness.
“I was provided a marriage license this morning out of Cullman County, which confirmed that they were married on Saturday in Gulf Shores,” said Blount County District Attorney Pamela Casey. “The charges currently pending against Mr. Wester stem from an investigation of his relationship with the victim while she was a student and he was a teacher. Now that the legal status of their relationship has changed, we will have to look at our case to determine how we will proceed.”

It is illegal in America which is why he was charged with a crime. There’s absolutely no justifying a teacher having sex with a teenager of any age despite what supporters of Matthew think, like JD Webb-Adventurer. Their job is to educate the children, not take advantage of them in order to have sex with them. Some students may look up to their teachers and trust them, which would make them more vulnerable to being taken advantage of. I don’t believe that a high school student is going to be nearly as mature as someone who has graduated college and has started earning a living.
